Genuine Ugreen Power Banks in Sri Lanka: How to Choose One and “Not Buy a Fake”

A power bank is the one accessory people buy on price and regret on quality. It sits in a bag all week, gets thrown into a hot car, and then has to deliver full current into a phone that costs twenty times more than it does. That is exactly the product you should not be buying from an unverified seller.

Ugreen has become the default answer for most buyers in Sri Lanka who want real fast charging without paying Apple or Anker premiums. The problem is that the same popularity has filled the local market with counterfeits, refurbished units and “grade A copies” sold at prices that look too good because they are.

This guide covers what makes Ugreen worth buying, how to tell a genuine unit from a fake, which model fits which user, and what current prices actually are.

Why Ugreen power banks are worth the money

1. The charging speeds are real, not marketing numbers

Cheap power banks advertise “fast charging” and deliver 10W. Ugreen publishes its output per port and holds it. The Ugreen 20000mAh 100W genuinely pushes 100W from a single USB-C port, which is enough to charge a MacBook Pro at full speed rather than trickle it. The 10000mAh 20W PB311 delivers proper PD 20W to an iPhone.

2. Two-way fast charging saves you hours

The power bank itself recharges fast. The 20000mAh unit takes up to 65W input. The 10000mAh magnetic model refills in roughly 3.5 hours. Budget banks often take 7 to 9 hours to refill, which means one forgotten overnight charge and it is useless the next day.

3. Honest capacity ratings

This is the part most buyers get wrong. A 10000mAh cell runs at 3.7V. Your phone charges at 5V. That conversion loses energy, so a genuine 10000mAh power bank realistically delivers around 6,250mAh to your phone. Ugreen prints this rated capacity on the unit. Counterfeit banks print 10000mAh and deliver closer to 3,000mAh, because the cells inside are salvaged.

If a seller tells you their 10000mAh bank gives you three full iPhone charges, they are either lying or the cell is not what they claim.

4. Safety engineering you cannot see

Ugreen units use multi-layer protection against over-current, over-voltage, overheating and short circuits, in fire-resistant V-0 rated housings. This is the entire reason not to gamble on a fake. A counterfeit battery pack failing is not a warranty inconvenience, it is a fire in your bag.

5. Airline-safe capacity ratings

Anything under 100Wh is allowed in carry-on luggage. The 20000mAh model is rated 72Wh and the 25000mAh Nexode is 90Wh, both within the limit. Unbranded banks frequently have no Wh marking at all, and airport security can and does confiscate them.

Genuine Ugreen Chargers in Sri Lanka: Spot a Fake

How to spot a fake Ugreen power bank in Sri Lanka

Counterfeits have got better. The box looks right. Here is what still gives them away.

Check the model number. Every genuine Ugreen power bank has a model code: PB503, PB311, PB561, PB720, PB722. It is printed on the unit and on the box. If the listing does not mention a model number anywhere, that is your first warning.

Check the rated capacity, not just the cell capacity. Genuine units print both, for example “10000mAh (37Wh), Rated capacity 6250mAh (5V/3A)”. Fakes usually print only the big number.

Weigh it in your hand. Real cells are heavy. The 10000mAh magnetic unit is around 220g and the 5000mAh pocket model is around 110g. A suspiciously light power bank has less lithium in it than it claims.

Look at the price gap. If a “20000mAh 100W” bank is listed at Rs. 6,000 when the genuine unit sells around Rs. 17,500, nothing about that gap can be explained by an honest supply chain. 100W GaN circuitry and four premium lithium cells cost money.

Ask about the warranty process, not just the warranty. Anyone can print “1 year warranty” on an invoice. Ask who honours it, where you send the unit, and how long a claim takes. A seller who cannot answer that has no warranty.

Check the port behaviour. A genuine PD power bank negotiates and holds a high-wattage charge. A fake spikes for a few seconds and drops to 5V. If you already own one, a USB-C power meter settles the question in ten seconds.

Which one should you actually buy?

You carry a phone and earbuds, nothing else. The 10000mAh PB311 at Rs. 7,500 is the sensible default. It charges an iPhone 15 Pro about 1.9 times, weighs almost nothing, and does proper 20W PD.

You have an iPhone 12 or newer. Pay the extra Rs. 2,500 for the magnetic PB561. Snapping it onto the back of the phone and walking around while it charges is a genuinely different experience from having a cable dangling out of your pocket. You still get a 20W USB-C port when you want full speed.

You want the smallest thing that works. The 5000mAh PB503 has the USB-C connector built into the body, so there is no cable to forget. It also folds out into a phone stand. At 110g it disappears into a handbag.

You travel with a laptop. The 20000mAh PB720. 100W from one port means your MacBook charges at wall-adapter speed, and 72Wh keeps it legal in carry-on.

You work off your laptop all day, or carry two. The 25000mAh Nexode. Dual USB-C at 140W and 100W charges two laptops simultaneously, and the TFT display shows live voltage, current, input and output rather than four guessing LEDs.

Whichever model you land on, don’t stop at the power bank. If you also need a wall charger for the days it’s not with you, pair it with the right charger at a matching wattage.

A note on cables, because this is where fast charging usually breaks

Buying a 100W power bank and using a Rs. 350 cable from a phone shop gets you 15W. Anything above 60W needs a 5A cable with an E-Marker chip inside it. If your power bank is rated 100W or 200W, a 100W cable is what actually lets it run at that speed — otherwise the power delivery negotiation caps at the lowest-rated component in the chain.

For iPhone users, the same logic applies to Lightning: an MFi-certified cable is what stops the “this accessory may not be supported” message and the slow charge that follows.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ugreen a good power bank brand? Yes. Ugreen is an established consumer electronics manufacturer known for GaN chargers, MFi-certified cables and power banks with honest capacity ratings and proper safety protection. In Sri Lanka it usually offers better value than Anker at the same output level.

How much is a genuine Ugreen power bank in Sri Lanka? Currently between Rs. 7,500 for the 10000mAh 20W model and Rs. 26,000 for the 25000mAh 200W Nexode. Anything priced dramatically below this range is unlikely to be genuine.

Which Ugreen power bank is best for an iPhone? The PB561 10000mAh magnetic model for iPhone 12 and later, because it snaps on and charges wirelessly at 7.5W or wired at 20W. For older iPhones, the PB311 10000mAh with a USB-C to Lightning cable.

Can I take a Ugreen power bank on a flight from Sri Lanka? Yes, in carry-on luggage. All the models listed here are under the 100Wh airline limit: the 20000mAh is 72Wh and the 25000mAh is 90Wh. They cannot go in checked baggage.

Why does my 10000mAh power bank not fully charge my phone twice? Because of voltage conversion. A 10000mAh cell at 3.7V converts to roughly 6,250mAh of usable output at 5V. This is normal physics, not a defect, and genuine Ugreen units print the rated capacity on the housing.

Do Ugreen power banks come with a warranty in Sri Lanka? Every Ugreen power bank from Legittech.lk includes a 1 year warranty with a documented claim process.
